4 Sony ECMAW4 Wireless Microphone

You don’t really need to say too much more than Sony when you are discussing electrical items. This microphone comes with all the technical and design know-how Sony can offer. It has a nice modern design and is sleek and not bulky and compact and lightweight.

This can also be a Lavalier (hands-free) mic if you wish, giving you the freedom to move around and really rock the joint. Wireless it is, so there are no cables to fall over or pull out of sockets and it has a rather impressive range of over 120 feet.

Connect it up…

The mic and the receiver take AAA batteries, and the receiver can actually be connected to an iPhone.

As there are two mics in the system in a Karaoke environment, they can be used to duet, but there are other situations where this feature may be useful. Film making, for example, where two can communicate easily.

What’s in the box?

It is supplied with recording cables, wind and pop screen and filter, carrying pouch and armband to wear it easily.

One of the greatest testimonials for this mic set up is that it is used a lot by filmmakers both for communication and actual recording. Filmmakers do not use poor quality equipment; they can’t afford to, so when you transfer its use to karaoke, be prepared for some great results that may just surprise you.

Relatively inexpensive and it is very good value for money.

5 BEHRINGER PA System

Always good to see our old friends, Behringer, producing something to offer the audio market. They have a great reputation in the music industry for manufacturing quality effects for live and studio work. And do so at a very competitive price. Being a German company, the quality of manufacture and the components used are of the highest available.

This offering is a package of two handheld best Karaoke microphones designed for vocal applications and have a high-quality microphone capsule to ensure a great sound is produced. They are supplied with a USB receiver with a dual analog/digital mode.

Put on quite a show…

They are good news for karaoke lovers as the sound is great and they have a range of about 100 meters from the source. That will allow your performers quite a bit of room to put on quite a show if they choose to, as they are free to roam around.

A further asset to this system is that the receiver will automatically pair the receiver with the transmitter. So there will be no problems or delays in frequency matching. Just plug in and away you go. The digital 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity will provide superior sound quality.

Look good and feel good…

Power is supplied by two AA batteries. You can expect to get about eight hours of battery life. The unit will take rechargeable batteries, which we recommend.

We are always impressed with Behringer equipment. Firstly because of its quality, and secondly because it is always well priced, they look good and feel good and substantial in the hand without being too heavy.

BEHRINGER PA System

  • Good audio reproduction.
  • Plug and play.

6 Wireless Microphone, Fifine Handheld Dynamic Microphone Wireless Mic System for Karaoke

Wireless best Karaoke microphones have a great advantage when they are being used for karaoke. Using them, you have the freedom to move around freely without worrying about cabling or disconnecting yourself.

Of course, when you have a system like the Fifine, it will provide options for use other than at karaoke. Live performances on stage, weddings, and other professional engagements like conferences all fall into the category of possible uses.

A clear, strong signal…

From the Karaoke perspective though it has a UHF wireless capability. This will provide a clear signal that is quite strong with good quality. UHF will reduce the possibility of interference and dropouts.

The range is not great at about eighty feet from source. So that probably needs to be borne in mind if one of your performers gets a bit carried away, disappears out of the door and everything suddenly goes very quiet. Eighty feet is still a reasonable distance, though, so it isn’t really that much of a negative.

It is an easy system to use with twenty selectable frequencies, so it’s just plug in, select and play.

Eliminate any unwanted sounds…

The microphones are well made, but whilst they feel substantial in the hand, they are not heavy. They are Dynamic Cardioid polar pattern microphones, which mean they pick up what is sung or spoken right into them and eliminate any unwanted surrounding sounds.

They have feedback rejection ensuring a maximum practical gain in volume. On the microphone, there is an off/on switch and a low battery warning light.

What you have with the microphone is a decent extension to your karaoke system. It is not the best microphone you will ever find, but at the price, it is a very good buy if you would prefer to spend a little less.

Wireless Microphone, Fifine Handheld Dynamic Microphone Wireless Mic System for Karaoke
Our rating:4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Pros
  • Good price.
  • Options for use are varied.
Cons
  • Not the best quality, when compared to many mics we have featured.

7 PYLE PRO PDWM2100 Professional

Pyle, yes those people who build rather noisy karaoke systems, have come up with a dual wireless microphone system and receiver. Two microphones, of course, brings so many more options in karaoke. And it is actually is an asset for people that are a bit nervous who can then join in with someone else to get the feel of it. Both are high-quality microphones.

They have a range of approximately 50-150 meters. There is a very useful LED indicator light on the receiver called AR/RF, which will let you know if you are getting too far away from the receiver.

A lot of feedback…

A further thing to bear in mind when your performers move around with the freedom that a wireless microphone gives them is to always stay in the line of sight between the microphone (the transmitter) and the receiver. If you don’t do this, then there is likely to be a lot of feedback.

With a system like this is a good idea to place it up high so that this line of sight is easy to maintain.

The receiver has two telescoping adjustable antennae and independent controls for each microphone channel. The microphones are battery operated.

No Roger Daltrey impersonations please…

These best Karaoke microphones are dynamic, moving coil, and unidirectional. They are well made with a metal base and a steel mesh ball grille. They are therefore able to take a little punishment though that shouldn’t be a reason for Roger Daltrey impersonations.

The price is amazingly low for such a product. You won’t get the same audio reproduction as the very expensive options. But for the money, this represents great value. If you were considering upgrading your karaoke equipment microphones, you wanted two microphones but didn’t want to spend a lot of money then this system is worth considering.

PYLE PRO PDWM2100 Professional
Our rating:3.7 out of 5 stars (3.7 / 5)

Pros
  • Two microphones included.
  • Tough and well-built.
  • Excellent price point.
Cons
  • Line of sight needed between the microphone and receiver.
  • Range a little bit short.

8 Samson Concert 99 Handheld Wireless System

Samson is a well-known manufacturer of quality audio. Based in the US, they have only been in existence since the early ’80s but have already forged a reputation for producing great products.

With the Concert 99 handheld system, they have created a rack-mountable system that is rugged and built to withstand a few knocks in its metal casing.

Good quality…

The handheld microphone/transmitter has a variable gain control and a one-touch mute option. The mic is a dynamic Q8 capsule that gives good quality and a high level of reproduction to the vocals. It is made from metal and given a steel mesh grille.

Setup is easy through the Group scan and IR synchronizing functions, and it has an impressive operating range of about 100 meters. You should receive about eight hours of battery life from two AA batteries.

No interference…

It employs the UHF frequency band which will cut down on interference from other devices and has 80 channels across a 24MhZ bandwidth from which to choose.

The receiver is nicely laid out and easy to read and understand. There are volume control and two antennae and an LED display giving information on channels and frequencies in use.

Flexibility and stability…

It is an efficient system that provides flexibility combined with stability. The UHF bands and onboard systems mean there are very few dropouts, and little degrading of the voice is very low. With a good range that doesn’t depend on line of sight, this represents a good option.

Possibly a bit on the expensive side but it operates very well.

Samson Concert 99 Handheld Wireless System
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros
  • Well made and robust.
  • High-performance level and continuity.
Cons
  • Some might think it expensive.

9 Movo WMIC70 Wireless 48-Channel UHF Lavalier Microphone System

Movo creates systems to deliver quality audio at competitive prices. They work in all fields of audio sound capture but are primarily involved with film. But occasionally their products can spill into other areas, which is the case with this system.

This Lavalier microphone system has 48 selectable UHF channels from 584MHz to 608MHz and a range of about 300 feet in line of sight or about 200 if there are obstacles in the way.

The two AA batteries give up to 8 hours of continuous use. And the microphone is a polar pattern omnidirectional that is compact and has a locking 3.5mm miniplug that will lock.

A little confusing…

It seems that while Movo has attempted to put some effort into creating a good audio capture unit, they may not have been so precise with the way the product is presented. It is quite difficult to tell from the two units, which is the receiver and which is the transmitter, which is rather an important point.

Each of the units has an antenna, and there are a couple of differing markings, one has a line in and a mute, but that is all.

Will do the job…

The sound reproduction is ok, but you sometimes get a burst of static that interferes but generally speaking they work fine. They are not the highest quality either in build or in sound reproduction. But at the price, you wouldn’t expect them to be. A budget range that will do the job.

Movo WMIC70 Wireless 48-Channel UHF Lavalier Microphone System
Our rating:3.8 out of 5 stars (3.8 / 5)

Pros
  • Versatile units.
  • Competitive price
Cons
  • Not the best you will find.

Well, there is an expression if you want the best, then you have to pay for it. Just say, hello.

Sennheiser makes some of the best recording studio kit around, and they use that superior technology in some of their other products. This unit is a case in question. They understand that to have great vocals; you need great microphones. And to have great microphones, you need a great capsule driving it.

The sound is staggering…

In this 500 range of equipment, they have utilized the capsules fro their 900 series microphones that have a world-wide reputation. This unit mic has that benefit, and therefore, the sound is staggering. The 900 series is a proven winner on stages around the world and is the chosen mic by many artists.

It incorporates a feedback resisting super-cardioid capsule that cuts through but whilst also keeping its warm ambient tone. It is a classic sound that has been created from years of research and monitored use — German engineering at its finest. Charge them up…

If you choose to use rechargeable batteries which we always advise if the unit will take them, they can be recharged by placing them in the charging station.

Just superior quality? Oh yes. Expensive? Oh yes, but if you want the best, as they say. This system might not be for kids parties or small social gatherings. It is made for professionals who demand excellence. It is unlikely you will find better.

Time to upgrade the Karaoke microphones – Best Karaoke Microphones Buyer’s Guide

So having had your karaoke machine now for a few months and realized what fun they can be. But, for whatever reason, you now want to improve or upgrade the microphones facilities.

As we said in our introduction, it’s not really the manufacturers’ fault. They supplied the machine and equipment of course but unless you have bought a pro machine they have supplied a mic that will suffice for home or party use. You can understand that. But now you have decided that you actually want this to be a bit better and the place to start is with the mic.

Best Karaoke Mic

What are your karaoke plans?

Depending upon what you propose to do will largely decide what you buy. We are assuming that it will not be for very young children as they are probably more than happy and excited about what they have already, so maybe it’s for teenagers.

They will want to impress their friends, of course, they will, so a better mic will help them do that. And there are a number of mid-price range microphones that will make a huge difference to the vocal sound. That situation though is still largely for home use and perhaps a few parties each year so the quality can be better without reaching a big price figure.

Getting a little serious?

But what about if you are suddenly put in a situation where you have bought a decent karaoke machine and are being invited to functions. Maybe to functions for people you do not know, who have heard you have a karaoke machine and want to join in the fun.

Now it has become a different scenario, and now you are looking for microphones that people are going to use and listen to and go wow! Now you are looking for professional microphones from professional manufacturers who specialize in audio and who will provide transmitters and receivers that will not let you down.

Can get expensive…

Most of the reviews we did were centered around the mid-price range units, and good they were as well. Some having benefits others did not have but nevertheless all improvements on the microphone that was delivered with the unit when you first bought it. But the step from good quality home use to the pro level is big and can be expensive, and unfortunately, there is no real way around that one.

Top Rated Karaoke Microphones

If you want to sound like a pro, then you need the equipment to do so. And some would argue that the most important element of that is the microphone and they would not be far wrong.

In that case, we looked at a couple of the systems the pros use.

Some other things to think about…

There are other considerations that are important. Are you expecting your performers to move around? In the home and at family gatherings probably not. But if you are hired into a big function, there is bound to be someone who thinks they are a Tina Turner or a Mick Jagger and is giving it ‘the moves.’

In that case, a good reception is called for, so you don’t have dropouts. And the mic will need to be tough and sturdy to withstand a few bumps. But that is one of the reasons it is fun. You just have to make sure you don’t have an equipment failure, and the pro stuff won’t let you down because it is built for it.

Get it all set up…

Ease of setup and use will also be important and especially in a situation where any sound adjustments need to be made. You need a receiver that is easy to operate practically and visually.

One final issue to be aware of is the line of sight. Does your receiver need to be in a direct line to the transmitter? Some do and won’t function properly unless they are, whereas others are fine.

Whatever your intentions, the microphone is key to a huge improvement in the audio reproduction. And if you are keen on Karaoke, then it is a worthwhile investment.

So, what’s the Best Karaoke Microphones?

People who are familiar with our reviews on other topics will know that we rarely choose expensive items. We prefer to see the best in all the products if we can, and then choose one that does the job we want it to do, at a reasonable price.

This time we will be different. There are some very good systems we looked at, but this manufacturer we know. We use their kit in other areas. It is superior and hence, worth the money you pay. Therefore, we have chosen as the best Karaoke microphones the…
